stunnel FIPS mode 140-2/ Other Modes

Hi All, I would like to ask a question about stunnel fips mode. There are lots of question and answers on the internet related with this, but I could not find any answer related with mine. I am compiling with openssl (auto detecting fips) . Here is a part of confgiure output : checking for FIPS_mode_set... yes configure: FIPS mode detected So I am thinking that fips also is being included. Then I try to run stunnel on target platform (in stunnel.conf fips=yes) and it gives below error : Compiled/running with OpenSSL 0.9.8w-fips 23 Apr 2012 Threading:PTHREAD Sockets:POLL,IPv6 SSL:ENGINE,OCSP,FIPS Reading configuration from file stunnel.conf FIPS_mode_set: 2D06906E: error:2D06906E:FIPS routines:FIPS_CHECK_INCORE_FINGERPRINT:fingerprint does not match there are lots of information about this errror on internet. Then when I configure stunnel.conf with fips=no, stunnel is running successfully. I know that fips=yes means that enables FIPS 140-2 mode and I guess my fips canister does not supoort fips 140-2 mode (I do not know which fips mode it has supported). Now my question is coming : When I set fips=no, stunnel also starts with other available fips modes which the canister included? Or it skips running fips mode completely? Plase inform me if anyone has any idea? Regards

Stunnel 4 failing to connect to gmail

stunnel and hosts.allow

Hi, This may be a little bit off-topic, but does anyone here use stunnel with pan? My connections to stunnel (in pan) are always refused by libwrap. I was looking for the right rule to add to /etc/hosts.allow but nothing seems to work aside from "ALL : ALL" (which is obviously not good) and "nntps: KNOWN". Is the latter reasonable? The hosts_access(5) manpage is confusing to say the least. It mentions that daemon (the first token on any line) is the name of the daemon running the process, which would be "stunnel" in my case, but using "stunnel : LOCAL" or even "stunnel : ALL" doesn't work. The rule that seems to work, as mentioned, is "nntps : KNOWN" ("nntps" being the group name in stunnel.conf). What's even more confusing to me is that "nntps : LOCAL" does not work either. Nor does "nntps : localhost 127.0.0.1", "nntps : localhost", "nntps : 127.0.0.1", or "nntps : 192.168.1.". Pan is running on the same machine as stunnel so all connections must be coming from localhost. Why do these rules not trigger? Either way, I'd like to know the "least permissive" hosts.allow rule that would allow me to connect to my news provider from pan, and/or whether "nntps : KNOWN" is a safe option. Thanks, Yousef

Can't compile stunnel 5.10 on Linux ... got fatal signal 11 error

Hi everybody ! I tried to compile stunnel 5.10 (latest) on my old Suse 7 Linux distrib and got "a fatal signal 11 error message" when doing the make command. Just before, openssl 1.0.2 (latest) compile fine with no errors. Perhaps need "make report" also ? I've look at stunnel-users(a)stunnel.org mail archive up to July 2011 with no success. So, that's why I'm writting to you there... Then, I tried different versions of stunnel 4.xx like 4.00, 4.56, 4.28 and more. All simply don't compile with differents errors messages. The only one I could compile completly is stunnel 3.22 (so latest 3.xx) Note that I'm happy with that because I was running stunnel 3.3 just before and that everything works with the latest openssl version I download and everything works fine for what I would ! Remark: Suse7 distrib (not OpenSuse) is Linux 2.2.16 kernel (not latest :-D) Alex. issue with stunnel forwarding

Hi Mike, thanks for your fast response, but I think there is a big issue. The latest version that is available in the CENTOS 6 Base Repo is "stunnel-4.29-3.el6_6.1.x86_64" - In this version the SSLv3 is disabled by default, but there is not option to enable it. Hi Mike, yes your correct, but I have forced the installation with "stunnel-4.29-3.el6_4.x86_64" ( all other packages openssl, etc. updated) and SSLv3 is working again. So, for my understanding there must be a bug or they have disabled SSLv3 in version "stunnel-4.29-3.el6_6.1.x86_64". Anyway, if you connect stunnel with some software that's so old that it doesn't support TLS, the software is almost certainly no longer supported, and most likely vulnerable to attacks. You describe in your documentation that SSLv3 is disabled by default. -> OK for me, but I need SSLv3 and the option with -NO_SSLv3 is not working?! PS: this is also not working with -NO_SSLv2 option. options = -NO_SSLv3 = NOT Working option = NO_SSLv3 = Working. Blue Iris

I have stunnel set up on my machine. It works locally and lets me connect to my Blue Iris server with https. However, I am unable to do this remotely. I have forwarded the port in my router to stunnel, from stunnel to blue iris, but still doesn't work. Below is part of my conf file [Blue Iris] accept = 8344 (forwarded this in the router to my static IP of my machine) connect = 127.0.0.1:8081 (8081 is my blue iris web server) I hope someone is able to give some advice
