Hi, I'm new to stunnel and it isn't clear to me how the log rolling feature works. I built stunnel 5.49 with gcc 4.2.0 on Solaris 10. I'm running it on Solaris 11.3 SPARC. Using openssl 1.0.2p The config file has disabled syslog and is logging to stunnel.log. Command line is: stunnel stunnel.conf where stunnel.conf contains the following: syslog = no output = stunnel.log debug = 7 [service-exterior] client = no options = NO_SSLv2 options = NO_SSLv3 options = NO_TLSv1 options = NO_TLSv1.1 options = -NO_TLSv1.2 cert = /path/to/stunnel.pem curve = zzz accept = testhost:32100 connect = 127.0.0.1:32200 [service-interior] client = yes options = NO_SSLv2 options = NO_SSLv3 accept = 127.0.0.1:32200 connect = 127.0.0.1:32100 sslVersion = TLSv1 ciphers = zzz TIMEOUTconnect = 60 The log rollowing steps I tried that don't work are: mv stunnel.log stunnel.log.1 kill -USR1 <stunnelpid> The log message "LOG7[main]: Processing SIGNAL_REOPEN_LOG" shows up in stunnel.log.1. However, new client connections to host:32100 do not trigger creation of a new stunnel.log file. In fact, logging stops to stunnel.log.1 as soon as the USR1 is processed. The new client connections work as before, but there isn't any logging. I restarted stunnel and tried the test again with these steps: mv stunnel.log stunnel.log.1 touch stunnel.log kill -USR1 <stunnelpid> That also doesn't work. Please let me know the correct sequence of steps to roll the stunnel.log Thank you, -- Tom

Adding custom HTTP headers to a proxy'ed HTTP request when stunnel is used as an endpoint for a HTTP proxy

Good evening folks, Michal was kind enough to review and rewrite/integrate one of my patches for logging session IDs [1] and post the remaining ones on the website [2]! So, I feel I should also contribute to this list a little program I wrote. It is meant to be used with the exec= directive. It is mostly useful when stunnel is used to secure a connexion between a client and a HTTP proxy. A stunnel instance can run locally on the client while a stunnel server runs on the HTTP proxy: HTTP client (proxy'ed) <- > stunnel client <--> stunnel server <-> HTTP proxy Here, the "exec=" program will run on the stunnel server and add some extra headers to each HTTP request. One of this headers is the client's Distinguished Name (from its X.509 certificate). The HTTP proxy (squid for example) can then make some decision based on this HTTP header (authorisation, etc.). It relies heavily on PicoHTTPParser. OpenSSL 1.1.1 secure level and also an old problem rearing up

Hi, Sorry to be the bearer of a "those OS vendors did something again and now we have to catch up with them... again..." type of news, but, well, the maintainers of the Debian package of OpenSSL upgraded it to a prerelease 1.1.1 version and, in the process, changed the default cipher selection in the openssl.cnf file to 'SECLEVEL=2'. Unfortunately, this means that the server certificate used in the stunnel test suite is not considered strong enough, so the test suite is failing. More details may be found in the description of the Debian bug https://bugs.debian.org/906981 and the error message itself is at https://ci.debian.net/data/autopkgtest/testing/amd64/s/stunnel4/865956/log.… (look for all the lines containing "SSL_CTX_use_certificate:ca md too weak") So my first reaction was to stop running the stunnel test suite and only leave my functional test script; however, I then had another idea and tried to get the stunnel test suite to explicitly specify SECLEVEL=1 using the attached patch. Log to syslog without process name, after reloading the configuration (sighup)

Hi, I've upgraded my stunnel from version 5.44 to 5.45. After reloading the configuration of stunnel (via pkill -sighup stunnel) several times, I've stumbled about missing syslogs. Only the loading of the configuration file was still visible. Then I've noticed, that greping the syslog for stunnel was my mistake. Stunnel doesn't log its process name after reloading the configuration file the second time (see logs below) Can someone verify, or is it just me, or some configuration I'm missing? BTW: I've reproduced the "problem" also for the version 5.48 as you can see from the logs. With version 5.44 stunnel always logged its process name to syslog. Use stunnel in inetd mode. Execute a script (or better C program). Copy the certificates for making the stunnel connection to a directory that is OK … then delete them immediately after stunnel starts. Hack – but might be OK for what you are doing. I am not sure why anyone would think it more secure to put the keys into the stunnel command than to just use them from a file … but I likely do not know enough about your application to make a judgement. Grok log parsing

I would ask if someone use Grok log parsing for stunnel and, if yes, what kind of filter statement are you using? At the moment I've just created 2 parser: STUNNEL_AcceptedConnectionParser %{date("yyyy.MM.dd HH:mm:ss"):date} LOG%{integer:loglevel}\[%{integer:session_id}\]\: Service \[%{word:csb_name}\-%{word:csb_port}\] accepted connection from %{ipv4:caller_ip}\:%{port:caller_port} and STUNNEL_ConnectionClosedParser %{date("yyyy.MM.dd HH:mm:ss"):date} LOG%{integer:loglevel}\[%{integer:session_id}\]\: Connection closed\: %{integer:byte_tx} byte$s$ sent to SSL\, %{integer:byte_rx} byte$s$ sent to socket I'm new with Grok and all the things related to log match-and-parse, so I think that there will be a much better solution than mine, anyway Google this time doesn't help unfortunately.
