We have designed a tool that is similar to Stunnel and we would like to know if anyone would be interested in testing the tool.
A short introduction:
The Barracuda HTTPS tunnel allows you to encrypt arbitrary TCP connections inside SSL. The HTTPS tunnel allows you to secure non-SSL aware services such as TELNET, FTP, VNC, etc., by having the HTTPS tunnel provide the encryption. The HTTPS tunnel can also be used, for example, to tunnel traffic out from behind a restrictive firewall/proxy that only allows outgoing HTTPS web connections.
The client is a Java program that can either be downloaded and started from the command prompt or started using Java Web Start.
The server is BarracudaDrive. http://barracudaserver.com/examples/BarracudaDrive/
We will make the beta program (the server and client) available if anyone is interested in testing the tool and give us feedback. We are specifically interested in beta testers that are behind a restrictive company proxy.
Thanks, Wilfred
I will try it. I'm currently using stunnel for MySQL and RSYNC. I would certainly be interested in SSL tunneling at the TCP level. Have you tried this with PPPd?

Umm, that's exactly what Stunnel does.
Have you tried this with PPPd?
You'll have the same problems tunneling ppp inside SSL with Stunnel as you do inside Barracuda, or inside SSH, or inside (insert all tcp-like protocols here.)
Thank you for your corrective services, much appreciated. What I meant was, using SSL as a VPN, not just tunneling individual ports/programs.

Just one comment:
BarracudaDrive is a Freeware, but is *not* a Free Software.
You can read some more about Free Software here: http://www.fsf.org/licensing/essays/free-sw.html

Yes I noticed that when going to their site. However, it does look pretty neat :D
But Piper is right, it doesn't belong in this mailing list XD

Mr. Nilsen, Does this work in addition to or in conjunction with Stunnel? Or are you just advertising on your competitor's opt-in email list just to be obnoxious?

BarracudaDrive is built from various components in the Barracuda Embedded Web Server. We are simply adding new features to this demo and we would like to get in contact with advanced users that are interested in testing the new features.
I could not think of a better place to ask for beta testers than using this mailing list as I expected the Stunnel users to be "power users" and not just a wannabi PC user.
We do not provide solutions for "host operating systems" and BarracudaDrive is from our perspective a demo application, but many "host" users find this tool very valuable.
We where hoping that we could get some feedback on the new features by providing a free tool that is actually useful.

BarracudaDrive is not trying to solve any world problems. The HTTPS tunnel is useful for encrypting sensitive information and to bypass firewalls.
Piper:

No

Competitor? Do you sell a commercial version of Stunnel for real time operating systems such as ThreadX, OSE, SMX etc? We do not provide solutions for "host operating systems" and BarracudaDrive is from our perspective a demo application, but many "host" users find this tool valuable.
Obnoxious is a very strong word. Maybe we can stop this flaming war right now. I do not see the harm in calling for beta testers.

Stunnel currently supports QNX, but it can be ported to any system that supports BSD sockets and is supported by the OpenSSL library.
Yes, I sell non-free licenses for stunnel to the companies that are for some reason not happy with default GNU GPL license.

how about your product license ?is it GPL? anotherway ,do your client progam support Microsoft Java VM ?
