samba over stunnel performance

Howdy... I'm trying to run samba over stunnel on a wireless connection. Here's the setup: unix box <- wifi -> windows laptop Unfortunately, reading files from the shared drive is extremely slow. If I look at the stunnel box on my windows machine, it is pumping out about 20 messages/second that say: LOG7[2140:3636]: SSL_read returned WANT_READ: retrying On two >1GHz machines, this is utilizing about 5% of cpu, and 4% of the 11Mbps link. Clearly there is room for improvement here! I tried poking around with stunnel.conf on the server to no avail - specifically, I commented out the lines: ; Some performance tunings socket = l:TCP_NODELAY=1 socket = r:TCP_NODELAY=1 ;compression = rle And restarted stunnel - same miserable performance (roughly the same throughput, and resource usage). Is there something about the SMB protocol that would cause stunnel to not deal with it well? If so, is there a configuration option somewhere I can tune, or do I have to RTFS & hack it to get decent performance here? Any tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance! Stunnel 4.05 on arm-linux

Hi all I would to use stunnel on a board based on the AT91RM9200. I'm actually trying to use Stunnel 4.05 for armv4l. I can launch it but when i try to connect to https (through a thttpd server), nothings happen. Hi everybody, I am trying to get stunnel 4.11 compiled on my AIX boxes but I am not having much luck. I am using GCC 3.3.2 on AIX 5.2. OpenSSL has been compiled and is working on those same boxes (OpenSSL 0.9.8). I configured stunnel using: root@tax178:/tmp/stunnel/stunnel-4.11 # ./configure --sysconfdir=/etc/stunnel --prefix=/usr/local --disable-libwrap And everything seems to go OK during the config steps. Poll Problem

I have confirmed that the problem I reported last week (on Mac OS X, streams are truncated with a reported "s_poll_wait returned 1, but no descriptor is ready" error) can be corrected by using the older "select" versions of the network functions. I did this by tweaking the source, but would like to make the fix as cleanly as possible, so... Sorry if this is in the docs (I couldn't find it), but what is the best way to disable the poll option? John

Question regarding SSL v2/v3

We have been using Stunnel 4.05 now for quite sometime now with OpenSSL 0.97d.I had a question regarding the SSL Version.When I look into the Stunnel.log I see Negotiated ciphers: AES256-SHA SSLv3 Kx=RSA Au=RSA Enc=AES(256) Mac=SHA1 This means that stunnel is using AES-256-SHA1 which uses SSL v3. Is it standard for stunnel4.05 to use SSL v3 or is it dependent on the OpenSSL Version. We haven't configured anything in the stunnel.conf to use SSL v3.
