Hi All, I would like to ask a question about stunnel fips mode. There are lots of question and answers on the internet related with this, but I could not find any answer related with mine. I am compiling with openssl (auto detecting fips) . Here is a part of confgiure output : checking for FIPS_mode_set... yes configure: FIPS mode detected So I am thinking that fips also is being included. Then I try to run stunnel on target platform (in stunnel.conf fips=yes) and it gives below error : Compiled/running with OpenSSL 0.9.8w-fips 23 Apr 2012 Threading:PTHREAD Sockets:POLL,IPv6 SSL:ENGINE,OCSP,FIPS Reading configuration from file stunnel.conf FIPS_mode_set: 2D06906E: error:2D06906E:FIPS routines:FIPS_CHECK_INCORE_FINGERPRINT:fingerprint does not match there are lots of information about this errror on internet. Then when I configure stunnel.conf with fips=no, stunnel is running successfully. I know that fips=yes means that enables FIPS 140-2 mode and I guess my fips canister does not supoort fips 140-2 mode (I do not know which fips mode it has supported). Now my question is coming : When I set fips=no, stunnel also starts with other available fips modes which the canister included? Or it skips running fips mode completely? Plase inform me if anyone has any idea? Regards

Requests to cloud server that requires host header

(related to Akamai message from before-- but I have better troubleshooting information). I'm tying to route traffic through stunnel to a "cloud" based-endpoint. That endpoint has a static server name-- test.authorize.net. (This is the dev sandbox for auth.net) But if you do an nslookup on test.authorize.net, you'll get back a different servername and IP, because it's so wonderfully "cloud". Stunnel apparently tries to connect to the nslookup value. The server rejects the request because it can't route it back to test.authorize.net. I've tried adding "delay = yes" and "sni = test.authorize.net", but neither work. To see this in action, a simple setup with any accept, then connect to test.authorize.net:443 in client = yes mode. This is what a valid response looks like (13 -- give me the darn merchant ID in a POST): https://test.authorize.net/gateway/transact.dll This is what you'll get if you try to use stunnel (400 invalid url) : https://23.195.204.150/gateway/transact.dll So how can I get stunnel to send the proper Request Header (host: test.authorize.net) make sure it's using http/1.1, etc?

Stunnel 4 failing to connect to gmail

Stunnel & Gmail security

Hi all, To make "Stunnel 5.31" work with Gmail, I have to go in security settings of Gmail and "allow less secure apps to access my account". Is it mandatory ? Is it possible to set Stunnel to access Gmail without lowering it security level ? How ? I checked in log file TLS v1.2 is used by Stunnel but Gmail still consider it as a "less secure app." ! Using transparent destination option with multiple network interfaces.

Hi, there. Base server details: - Using the latest stunnel 5.37 - Ubuntu Trusty - The computers communicating with each other use bridged interface addresses that are configured by the clustering software (i.e. to ensure that at least one of the nodes is master and host to some common addresses) - For discussion purposes, let's say that each server has an eth0 and eth1, and that the master node has two additional bridged address (ie. eth0:shared-ip1, eth1:shared-ip2) - The slave nodes will try to connect to eth0:shared-ip1:20001 and eth1:shared-ip2:20001 that are hosted on the master - The master node will also try to connect to these as well, while listening on port 20001 - Not running in a chroot and am running stunnel as stunnel4 user - I have created a working solution using 4 services in the stunnel config and using hard-coded destinations in the iptables rules and the stunnel config. I want to create something more dynamic and versatile. I am trying to insert a stunnel instance between my server application that attempts to connect to its twin on another server, using the bridging addresses. I am trying to avoid hard-coding destination IP addresses in my stunnel configuration file and the iptables rules. I also don't want to have separate rules for each interface. For example, from server A's perspective (i.e. the master node), the desirable sequence of events are: - Attempt to connect to port 20001 using the bridge addresses as destinations (in this case, they would be local interfaces). - Intercept the requests to port 20001 on server A and divert them to port 40000 for encryption (i.e. the local stunnel instance). - Send unencrypted data from stunnel directly to local 20001. At the same time, server B is doing the same, except that the bridge addresses reside on server A and are not local. As can be seen, line 1 and line 7 are virtually identical. In the stunnel log, I can see that stunnel is receiving multiple requests for port 20001 in rapid succession but is not actually receiving any reply from the final destination. So, if anyone has any ideas, tweaks or suggestions for how to solve this problem or where I am going wrong, I would appreciate it. I can use a static configuration with hard-coded destination IP's but if there is an alternative, I would like to know. I have tried for several days to figure this out and have searched Google extensively, including stunnel-users postings, to figure out how to do this without success. Thanks, Rodney Lott

Hi there. Dumb error I just found. Dumb because I just found it and maybe it was earlier among us. Or maybe it is "a feature". But I'd swear it worked as expected in the past. Testing the new SNI option I made a mistake and I had to edit and reload the configuration file. Nothing strange until here. The problem is comming because I load a custom .conf file as "stunnel.exe file.conf" for the server mode, so when a parsing error is found, Stunnel lose the track of the custom .conf file and when you reload the corrected configuration through the "Reload configuration" menu option, it doesn't load the custom .conf but the default stunnel.conf. But before reloading, the "Edit configuration" menu option points correctly to the correct configuration file and opens it to edit. Only "Reload configuration" lose the track of the file. This is happening in the windows environment (just if it wasn't clear enough by the .exe extension ;) ). Windows 2000 (yet). I can't tested versions beyond. Regards.

Jothish, 1. You are using a very outdated version of OpenSSL (openssl 0.9.8 is EOL). I suggest you use a newer, supported version. 2. On a DOS Window, try this:openssl dhparam -rand randfile1;randfile2;randfile3 1024 where randfile1,randfile2.... are existing files or directories to use as entrophy sources. HI all, There is a problem we have currently connecting tibco client to SFDC sever via TLS v1.2 and that's solved by using stunnel in client mode. And the communication from SFDC client to tibco server applications w.r.t TLS V1.2 I am unable to solve using stunnel. Below is the configuration in stunnel in server end to divert the traffic from 8008 to 8009, can you help here with the logs is the stunnel configuration is correct or there any missed/need to alter.
